This is a very rare bamboo in the USA. It is uncommon in bamboo species in that is one of the only varieties that is solid wood. This particular Chimonobambusa is gorgeous, large saucer shaped nodes and dainty leaves show off this beauty. This plant prefers partial sun and is diminutive in size reaching about 6 to 8 feet tall in the northwest. In China it is prized for making canes and “walking sticks” thus the name. It does real well in a pot but will need to be removed every couple of years and separated as it is a strong grower. Be aware that this plant spreads rapidly. Give it room and enjoy.
